Question:

Hello, I have a 2019 Chevrolet express passenger 3500 extended van. I pull a 26foot bumper to hitch toy hauler. It is 6200# dry loaded with our stuffs and 7200# with fuel/water/propane full. I have a Curt XD hitch I purchased with 2400# tongue weight capacity. I have an Anderson WD hitch installed also. My tongue weight dry is 1100# and loaded it is 1500#. We are usually running with 1/2 the water tank full and so we sit at 1300# tongue weight most of the time. I have one of your tongue weight scales. I have also weight at CAT scales and have 1300# left before I max out the rear axle max rating on the van. When hooked up, my rear axle is 1inch closer to the wheel well than the front axle. 5-1/2inch at rear and 6-1/2inch at the front. Is this anything I should try to level out? I was looking at the helper springs but I dont know how to tell if they will engage under my load or which ones to consider since there are so many options. Is there another product that would work better if this is anything I should address? Thanks for the guidance!

When you're adjusting a weight distribution system, you're looking for the system to return the front ride height as close as possible to where it was when unloaded, ideally within an inch or so. If you're at or near that point, you're in pretty good shape.

To reduce the sag in the rear when you're towing, I'd recommend the # SSR-205-47 SumoSprings helper springs which will provide up to 1500 lbs of additional support. When installed, these replacement bump stops will have about 1/2 to 1 inch of preload, or space between the axle and the bottom of the SumoSpring. This allows the rear suspension to act normally during regular driving but once the suspension compressed from towing or from a heavy load in the cargo area, the springs will make contact and will come into play. The system offers plenty of support, but the replacement bump stops are still pretty pliable so you'll have support without a super-harsh ride.
