The unit will not into standby after being used to tow trailer, it will keep calibrating until it runs the battery down. This is in my 2006 Toyota Sequoia with a plug in adapter.

I am sorry to hear your Curt Assure Trailer Brake Controller with Dynamic Screen - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # C49UR in your 2006 Toyota Sequoia is not going into standby/sleep mode.
I recommend using a circuit tester # PTW2993 to test the factory trailer brake controller harness and making sure that the stop light switch pin only comes on when you have the brake pedal pressed, and that you have one pin with constant 12v power.
If this is the case, then the issue is within the Curt Assure # C49UR and it will need to be replaced.
If you find you have constant power on two pins, then the stop light switch on your Sequoia has gone bad and will need to be replaced.
I included a video of the # C49UR for you to take a look at.
