Determining Which Replacement Axle Fits 2000ish Trailstar Trailer

Updated 06/25/2021 | Published 06/23/2021

Question:

I recently purchased a 2000ish Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 on a Trailstar trailer year unknown. The trailer is in good shape and going through the maintenance process. When I disassembled the hubs and bearings I noticed deep gouges in the bearing area of one wheel See pic. The other bearing surface was not bad but looks like the axle needs/should be replaced. The following are the axle measurements I took with the hubs removed: OAL = 73 3/4 inches Spindle l Diameter is 1 Axel Diameter is 1 3/4 inches. I am using 12inch 4x4 wheels and tires and will require new hubs as well. I am also curious about how the axel is mounted See pic. Does this make sense to you?

I would be happy to help you determine the correct replacement axle for your 2000 Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 and Trailstar trailer but the axle length is actually measured hub face to hub face so you will want to put your hubs back on temporarily and measure from there.

In addition you will need to measure from spring center to spring center, and determine the axle rating of your axle. If the axle tag is still on the center of the axle it will have your axle rating on it, or if not you can take the GVWR of the trailer and divide it by the number of axles on the trailer (based on the picture you have a single axle) to get a good idea of the axle rating.

Its a little hard to see in the picture, but it looks like your axle is mounted using spring seats though they look pretty small.

For example if your trailer currently has a 2000lb axle the Dexter Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs - 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern - 72" Long - 2,000 lbs # 20440I-ST-72 may work as it has a 72" hub face to hub face measurement, and a 58" spring center to spring center measurement as shown in the included diagram. As long as this matches your current axle this would be a perfect replacement option as it comes with new idler hubs with the 4 on 4" bolt pattern you need for your current wheels.

If you find you have a different axle rating or if your measurements differ just let me know and I would be happy to go over the available options.

I included a video of the # 20440I-ST-72 for you to take a look at.
