Why Does My 2018 NuCamp TaG XL Outback Have 7" Brakes With 15"Wheels?
Updated 06/24/2021 | Published 06/22/2021 >
Question:
I need to order new brake assemblies. We have a 2018 TAG XL Outback edition with 15inch off road tires. Nucamp has told us and the manual shows that Dexter brakes were installed and this is the replacement but Im confused by tire size. Could they have installed a 7inch brake assembly on the camper but put a bigger tire on? Do you think the brake assembly was based on trailer weight and not tire size?

Since the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 7" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 2,000 lbs # 23-47-48 is what NuCamp installed on your trailer, it is what you want to use for a replacement on your 2018 NuCamp TaG XL Outback.
The size of the brakes used is 100% dependent on the size of your axle, and is dependent on the tire size.
However the drums themselves will be rated for up to a specific tire size, as the contact area of the drum to the wheel will only support a wheel so large. Since NuCamp installed it, I would assume they made sure it was compatible but I recommend asking them for the part number they used and I would be happy to double check.
I included a video of the # 23-47-48 for you to take a look at.
