How much up and down play should be in the swing part of the tongue at the end when the pin is in place

With the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 3" x 4" Tongue - Bolt On - Up to 7,000 lbs # FHDPB340301 installed you will get some up and down movement. Typically this should not exceed about 5 degrees, or 1-1/2" with tongue at the longest length of 48".
The shorter the tongue the less play you will notice. There is play due clearances needed to allow the hinge to be able to open and close without getting stuck.
