The short answer is maybe.
In most cases, meaning with most tow vehicles, the # FR87PR power adapter isn't needed. If you have a newer model Chevy vehicle with a factory 7-way and you're using an RV camera system like the Vision S, part # FOS05TASF, the adapter is required to provide enough power. Additionally, if you have a different vehicle and the observation camera system works fine with the vehicle off but quits when the vehicle is started then the adapter should solve that issue as well.
