Which Replacement Grease Seal with 1.750 Inner Diameter

Updated 05/21/2021 | Published 05/20/2021

Question:

trailer shaft size is 1.750 in the seal area. The grease seals I received are 1.720. My mechanic says to tight. Is he correct or mistaken. Would this seal work or will there be premature wear to the seal or shaft? Factory # is 17255TB and the size listed is 2.56 od by 1 3/4inch ID. x 1/2 thick. If the 1.720 is too tight, what is the correct seal size and the order #. Thanks for your time

The Grease Seal - Double Lip - ID 1.719" / OD 2.565" - for 3,500-lb Axles - Qty 2 # RG06-050 is the correct replacement for a 171255TB seal and I'm not seeing a grease seal we have that has a 1.750 ID. You do want a tight seal on your hubs so that the grease is sealed in and water, dust, debris, etc., is kept out, so it might just be that he's having trouble getting it seated properly.

With that said, 1.875" ID is the next size up for grease seals and the available replacements would be the # BB60002 or # BB60003, which also have a 2.56" outer diameter.
