Question:

What is the total cargo weight capacity with the extension? The off-grid alone has a 165lb weight capacity but will the extension increase the weight capacity? But even if the weight capacity increases for the basket itself, it’s still limited by the carrying-weight limit of the crossbars, correct?

Those are good questions. I will answer your last question first. You are correct, the limiting factor is the weight your crossbar and car combination are rated to carry. If something has a higher weight limit than the 165lb weight capacity the rack is rated to carry the rack's weight limit will still be the limiting factor. Please keep in mind this weight limit is a combination of the racks weight, the weight of the accessory, and the weight of the item/s you are transporting.

Now for your next questions, your Yakima OffGrid Roof Cargo Basket, part # Y07138, has a weight capacity of 165lbs and adding the extension does not increase this weight limit. But it will increase your baskets storage capacity by 40%.
