Question:

Hi, I am thinking abour buying this rack but wondering if i can use an extender with it as i need a 14inch clearance to clear my spare tire. 1995 Land Rover Defender... Thanks

You can definitely use a hitch extender with the Thule Apex Swing XT, part # TH9027XT. The Apex Swing XT has 7-1/4" of clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack. So, you only need about 7" more inches of extension.

I recommend the Curt Extender, part # C45791. It fits 2" hitches and has 8" of extension. This will give you just enough space to clear your tire. I've linked to a video review of this extender below.

Keep in mind that the use of any extender will reduce your hitch's capacity by 50%.
