Are These Tires Strong Enough To Hold A 1,600 lb Load On A Single Axle Trailer?

Updated 04/21/2021 | Published 04/19/2021

Question:

I know the rating for this tire is 1,075 LBS. Is this per tire? I have an old snowmobile trailer that I want to use for my side by side which is 1,600 and change in LBS. I have a limited clearance where it wont bottom out on the bottom of the deck. There are 8 inch tires on it now which the side by side will way overload the current tires. I was also worried about the wheel rating, would the wheel itself be overloaded?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Depending on how many tires you have determine if the tires will be overloaded. It's kind of like axles. If you wanted to carry a 5,000 lb piece of equipment and you have two 3,000 lb axles then you will be fine since you have a 6,000 set up. Same with tires. If you have two tires that have a capacity of 1,075 like the tire you're looking at # AM30156 and you're going to have 1,600 lbs on your trailer and the trailer itself doesn't weigh more than 450 lbs, you won't be going over the weight limit of the tires and rims.
