Replacement Brake And Hub/Drum Assemblies for 7,000lb Trailer Axle

Updated 04/20/2021 | Published 04/16/2021

Question:

The outer bearing on my Carson trailer is destroyed, and need a complete backing plate with brakes attached, as well as all bearings, races and seals. Outer bearing Inside Diameter is 1,25inch and the inner bearing inside diameter is 1.75. I will need the complete brake drum assembly. I think while I am at it I want the other side complete assembly as well. What should I order? Is it cheaper to order the complete axle assembly?

If your axle is not damaged I recommend just replacing the brakes and hubs. The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-219-18UC3 will include the new bearings, lug nuts, dust cap, and grease seal. The races have already been pressed into the hub for you as well.

The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-464-465 will be the correct brake assemblies for you to install with the brake drum assemblies.

If you wish to you can install a new axle with the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # 8327864-EB. This 7,000lb axle has a spring center to spring center of 79" and hub face to hub face of 94". It comes complete with the brakes, and hubs installed but will require you to drop your leaf springs to mount them. I recommend a new U-Bolt Kit # APUBR-8 as your U-bolts may be damaged or become damaged when removing.
