Question:
I currently own a Equalizer 10,000/1,000 lb. W/D hitch and like it very much. I upgraded to a larger trailer and my tongue weight is now about 1,400 lbs. My question is, can I upgrade my spring bars to the 1,400 lb. version with my current Equalizer hitch or do I need to purchase the completely new 14,000/1,400 lb. version? And a follow up question, if I do need a new hitch, how does the Curt TruTrack compare the Equalizer both in the 14,000lbs. version? Thank you...

Unlike some weight distribution systems, the weight distribution head of the Equal-i-zer hitches also carries a bar-specific weight capacity so you unfortunately wouldn't be able to increase the weight capacity by just going with a higher rated set of spring bars, as the new bars woldn't be compatible with your existing weight distribution head. You'd need to go with a new system such as the # EQ37140ET 1400 lb system. That being said, you could save a few dollars by reusing your current shank and going with the # EQ37141ET which doesn't include the shank. Either system includes the 2-5/16 inch trailer ball.
The Curt # C17501 Tru Track is rated for trailers with 1000-1500 lbs of tongue weight when fully loaded and ready to tow. The Tru Track is a decent product, but unless you're on a tight budget, I'm confident that you'll be much happier with the quality and performance of the US-Manufactured Equal-i-zer weight distribution system.
I've linked to a demonstration video where my buddy Hayden will walk you through the features of the Equal-i-zer system.
