Tracker Boat Trailer Wires With 7 Wires Connecting Into A 4 Pin Plug

Updated 08/19/2025 | Published 04/02/2021

Question:

I have a 2012 tracker boat trailer that has 7 wires going into the 4-pin connector. The end of the connector needs replacing but there are no 7-wire, 4-pin connectors that I can find. Tracker said they only sell the complete harness so thats a last resort. Question is how do i change the connector to a standard 4-wire, 4-pin connectorinch My wires seem to be different from this earlier on this blog. I have 1-White 2-White w/brown stripe 2-brown 1-green and 1-yellow. I have a swing tongue on the trailer where the wires go through and there only appears to be 2 lines, 1 that is white/yellow/brown and 1 that is white/green/brown. No idea where or if the white / brown wires go. Maybe they are for electronic brakes which my trailer doesnt have. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It could be possible that your 2012 Boat trailer is wired with a wishbone style harness. Similar to Item # A25W2GWB. This type of harness just allows the installer to run each side separate rather than splicing and running extra wires across the bottom of the trailer. Your best bet may be to test each wire function before cutting. You cannot get trailer brakes from a 4 pin connector which is why I am leaning more toward it being a wishbone.

Once you determine the proper functions all you would need to do is add Hopkins Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector - Trailer End - 4' Long Item # HM38138 which will provide you with your left and right brake/turn signals and running lights.

I'm having the same problem as Daniel M, but with a 2015 Tracker boat trailer. One thing I'm learning is the 1 all white wire is attached to the inside of the swing away tongue as the main ground of the system The Green, the White with the Brown stripe, and the all Brown wires run through the Starboard side of the trailer, which runs the entire Right side of lights. Brown for marker lights, Green for Right tail light & signal, and White with the Brown stripe is the ground wire for the whole Right system The Yellow, the White with the Brown stripe, and the all Brown wires run through the Port side of the trailer, which runs the entire Left side of lights. Brown for marker lights, Yellow for Left tail light & signal, and the White with the Brown stripe is the ground wire for the whole Left system My question to you is, since neither one of the products you mentioned, has the main ground wire for the swing away tongue, is there a product that does have it, or is the main ground even needed?

@JayH The main ground is still needed because sometimes with swing away tongues the ground doesn't always make great contact. So what you'd need to do is basically just run all of the grounds to that main wire everything will work fine.
