Installing the Replacement Hitch Hardware for the Yakima SwingDaddy Bike Rack

Question:

I was going to call you. The bolt I purchased for my hitch doesnt fit-it is too thin and the rack is wobbly. My friend believes I am missing the threading that the bolt goes in to. Do you sell a piece like that? Thanks for your time

It looks like you purchased the Replacement Mounting Hardware, # Y8890185. This should have come with the square, black shank insert, a square nut that fits inside of the shank insert, a flat washer, a lock washer and a threaded pin and clip. I made a short video showing you how the pieces go together.

I have this Yakima swing daddy and It seems loose when installed. It wobbles a lot in the hitch even after I crank it down with the wrench. Wondering if the best move is to buy this replacement hardware or use a different product like a anti-rattle hitch stabilizer - like item e99007 Thanks for any help

I would try lifting up on the Yakima SwingDaddy Y02422 when you go to tighten the anti-rattle device before replacing anything. Sometimes the heavier bike racks need to be moved around a little in order to get the anti-rattle device as tight as it needs to be. If that doesn't work then I recommend replacing the anti-rattle with the kit # Y8890185 mentioned on this answer page. After that then I'd go with adding some other anti-rattle like our part # e99007.

@Josh Let’s say the square nut is on the passenger side of the vehicle. Does the bolt get inserted from the drivers side? Or the passenger side? I’ve always done it with the nut on the passenger and bolt inserted from the driver. I made the most sense for me because the threads on the bolt are closer to the head. My hitch rattled a lot and I found the plastic ribbing on the insert is damaged. Now I’m thinking that the nut goes on the drivers side AND the bolt should be inserted on the drivers side. Which way is correct?

@CharlesC Is there a stop for the square nut? From what I'm seeing it looks like the square nut is able to slide freely back and forth inside that plastic piece. If that's the case then it wouldn't really matter which side you installed the hitch bolt on because it would naturally pull the square nut tight to the side of the shank.
