According to the owner's manual, your Metris is rated to tow up to 5000 lbs. I saw no prohibitions regarding weight distribution mentioned, but you'll want to find the ID label on the hitch. If the label on the hitch lists both a towing and weight distribution capacity, then it is capable of being used with weight distribution. The owner's manual mentioned a 500 lb tongue weight (the maximum amount downward force that can safely applied to the hitch) maximum, so you'll want to be sure not to exceed that.
A weight distribution system with an integrated sway control component like the Curt # C17499 TruTrack would normally be what I'd recommend, but this system is rated for trailers with a 500-800 lb tongue weight, which would exceed the tongue weight limit mentioned in the owner's manual. If your tongue weight is below 500 lbs (see linked article which explains how to determine this), the Fastway e2, part # FA92-00-0800 which is effective on trailers with tongue weights ranging from 400-800 lbs is the weight distribution system I'd recommend. You'll also need a trailer ball like # 63840 for a 2-5/16 or # A-90 for a 2 inch ball.
