Question:
Hello I have a 1994 GMC Suburban K1500 4x4. I’d like to know if I need to have a weight distribution system for towing. I’m looking at buying a trailer but want to make sure that my truck can tow it without any issues. But I do know that I need a brake controller. Please let me know.

It all just depends on what your hitch capacity is and what you plan on hauling. Meaning, if your hitch can haul 10,000 GTW but with a weight distribution set up it can haul 12,000 GTW then you would want to get a weight distribution set up for 12,000. For instance, if you have the Curt Class IV 2 inch hitch # C14029 you have a tongue weight capacity of 1,000 lbs and a Gross Trailer Weight Capacity of 10,000 lbs. But with a weight distribution hitch like # EQ37120ET you can now use the hitch to it's full potential of 1,200 lbs TW and 12,000 lbs GTW.
For a brake controller a great one is the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR. This will tie into your existing 7 pole trailer wiring but if you do not have the wiring on your 1994 Suburban currently, you'll need to install # ETBC7.
