Question:

I have a brand new 2021 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD. It has no trailer hitch yet and I see no mention of a factory towing package on the window sticker. Your TK74FR wiring harness says it will work only with models that have the factory towing package yet with I look behind the bumper on the drivers side I see a plug that looks like the place where this harness should plug into. Is it possible that as of 2021 all Highlanders come through with this option?

The correct trailer wiring harness for a 2021 Toyota Highlander without factory tow package is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # TK99FR which plugs in behind the taillights. The correct trailer wiring harness for a 20021 Toyota Highlander with factory tow package is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # TK74FR which plugs into the tow package port. If you are not sure whether or not you have the factory tow package you'll want to reach out to the dealer but this is almost always listed on the window sticker if equipped. Please note, models without the factory tow package may still have the tow package plug but that does not mean the circuits are active which is something I see personally down in the shop frequently.

For a trailer hitch, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e75ZR.
