How To Add a 12 Volt Outlet To a Truck Bed with 5th Wheel Wiring

Question:

Have a 2021 Ram 1500. Would like to add a 12v outlet in the bed. Like your 5th wheel connector tapping into the trailer plug. Is there a similar concept for just a 12v outlet tapping into the trailer harness?

In order to add a 12 volt outlet to a truck bed you can use the 12 Volt Outlet Kit part # RM-9332. The wires on this will need to be extended to reach the battery, just make sure to do this before the fuse holder as opposed to after. This would allow for the full 20 amps assuming the correct gauge wire was used.

It could also be wired to splice into the fifth wheel/gooseneck wiring if equipped but you would have to splice into the battery charge line circuit from that harness as there isn't any sort of connector for this. Furthermore, you would be limited to whatever that circuit was rated for minus what was being pulled from the bumper connector via the battery charge line circuit.
