Question:

What is the distance from the front bar to the hatch opening on a 2018 Civic 5dr hatchback? Trying to figure out which cargo boxes will provide enough clearance for the hatch to open.

The front bar sits 9-27/32" or 250 mm from the end of your front door on your 2018 Honda Civic 5dr Hatchback. I attached a screenshot from the install guide that shows where to put the bars. From there, open your hatch and measure from the closest point of your hatch all the way to your door. Then add 9-27/32" (or just make it 10") and you have a measurement to guide you when shopping cargo boxes.

From my experience with cargo boxes, 16 cu ft is a good size for your vehicle. One example is the Thule Pulse Large Rooftop Cargo Box # TH615. We weren't able to test fit it on a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback, but I attached videos of it on a 2009 Honda Civic and a 2013 Toyota Prius if you want to see how it looks on a Civic and on another hatchback. The Prius video has the hatchback door open and you can see how there is plenty of clearance there.
