Cable-type tire chains offer a cost-effective option for the driver who needs tire chains only on occasion.
One such product is the Glacier Class S Tire Chain for the 2003 Honda Accord, part # PW1034. This DOT-compliant chain set offers a low-profile design ideal for vehicles with limited wheel-well clearance and uses rugged case-hardened steel roller construction. We recommend rubber adjusters be used with these chains and they are available separately, part # PW100. Installation of both products is shown in the attached video. These chains require a minimum clearance of 1.46 inches between top of tire tread and wheel well, and 0.59 inches from the tire sidewall to the vehicle.
A cost-effective chain-type option is the Glacier Tire Chain for the 2003 Honda Accord, part # TC1138. These chains are also Class S like the cable chains above, but will offer somewhat better traction than the cables due to their square link construction. The rubber adjusters, part # PW100, are recommended for use with these chains also, and the same clearance minimums noted above apply to these chains as well.
As we go upmarket we will find additional features, such as automatic alignment and tension adjustment. For instance, the Thule Tire Chains for the 2003 Honda Accord, part # TH00023095, offer the automatic tension and alignment features and require only 9 mm of clearance. This chain also includes other useful features such as color-coded connectors, nylon bumpers to protect your rims, and D-shaped links to grab the ice and snow. This chain is a better choice if you expect to use it repeatedly.
We do recommend that you review your vehicle owner manual to ensure there are no restrictions on the use of tire chains. Please note that all of these chains are for on-road use only and are recommended for speeds up to 25 mph.
