Adding Rooftop Air Conditioner to 2006 Winnebago Journey with Basement Air

Updated 09/09/2020 | Published 09/05/2020

Question:

Hi, I have a 2006 Winnebago Journey Freightliner chassis with basement air. I am considering adding an additional roof air conditioner it gets pretty warm in the California desert. My question is would a 50 amp connection be able to handle the additional roof air? Also, would my Onan 7500 diesel generator be able to handle both air conditioners? Thank you in advance,

You can definitely add an additional air conditioner with your 50 amp power connection. You will just need to make sure you have a separate circuit breaker in your panel. I recommend using the Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System - Manual - 13,500 Btu - Black # FR25PR or the Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System - Manual - 13,500 Btu - White # FR52PR. Either option is a complete system that has a capacitor integrated to help with startup power draw. This unit pulls 14.6 amps while running so it sounds like your 7500-watt generator will supply enough power for both units as long as you start them one at a time.
