Question:
I have Aviator with factory Class IV tow pkg. Rated for “Weight Carrying Max. Trailer Capability lbs.” : 6,700 lbs. with “Max Tongue Load lbs : 670 lbs. This vehicle is using Suspension Air bags front and rear. We are wanting to tow as close to these limits as possible a Lance TT. Now my question??? Can a Weight Distribution System work with this new setup from Lincoln? All the material from Lincoln is vague and confusing. Croft Trailer guy said he believed the “air bags” might be a “issue” for traditional WDH. If he is wrong and you can and should use a WDH, please tell me which is the best system $ can buy to work in this setup.

I wasn't able to locate any information in the owner's manual for the 2020 Lincoln Aviator that specifically said anything about not using a weight distribution system when towing, and typically any time you're towing a trailer that weighs more than 1/2 of the curb weight of your tow vehicle we do recommend using a weight distribution hitch. There are certain vehicles that are not designed to be used with weight distributing hitches, but they're typically unibody frame vehicles that are not designed to handle the additional stress that a weight distribution system puts on the frame.
With that said, when you're setting up any weight distribution hitch with an auto-leveling air bag suspension system, you'll want to make sure that you run the auto-level before getting the bars on the WDH set into place and tensioned.
When it comes to choosing the best weight distribution for your trailer, you'll want to go with something where the tongue weight of the trailer falls towards the middle of the range for that weight distribution system. Then, you're going to be best served by going with a weight distribution system that has 4 point sway control built in; for that, I recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # EQ37100ET. This weight distribution hitch uses steel on steel friction to help prevent sway and will work well for trailers with tongue weights between 600-lbs and 1000-lbs. To install the hitch ball on this system it is recommended that you use a 1-7/8" thin walled socket, which is available with part # EQ70-00-4800. This is definitely the best system money can buy and very well reviewed on our site.
I've linked a review video of this weight distribution system, as well as some of our helpful articles on weight distribution hitches that you may want to have a look at, as well.
