Question:

Hi! I just found your site. I want to find a roof basket and cargo bag for my 2014 Toyota RAV4 XLE with sunroof and standard factory roof rack. This will be for excess cargo for long trips and also for extra capacity during a move. Id like to get as much capacity as possible. Also I dont have anyone to help me install, so it needs to be something that a woman in her 50s with average strength and mechanical skill can put together and get on top of the car by herself. Thank you!

Having installed MANY cargo baskets, I would say that the Yakima OffGrid Roof Cargo Basket - Steel - 62" Long x 40" Wide - 165 lbs, Item # Y07138-08, is the easiest to install. I have attached a video for you to see how it is done.

This Yakima rack has a 165 capacity and has optional locks, part # Y07204.

The crossbars on your roof rack need to be between 30 inches and 50 inches apart to install this basket.

For a cargo bag, I recommend the Rhino-Rack Rooftop Cargo Bag -17.5 cu ft - 59" x 43" x 11-1/2", Item # RRLB500, for a waterproof option. Or if you are okay with the water resistant, the Rightline Range 3 Rooftop Cargo Bag t - 18 cu ft - 48" x 36" x 18", Item # RL100R30, would be a good choice.

You mentioned extra capacity. The capacity of the basket is 165 pounds, however, you will need to check with your owner's manual to see what the capacity is of your roof rack and then stay within the limit of the lowest capacity.
