Recommended Weight Distribution System for Reduced Squat/Sag and Sway Control

Updated 06/25/2020 | Published 06/23/2020

Question:

Looking into sumo springs for my 2019 F250. I just bough a new trailer with tongue weight around 1300lbs, but Im assuming it could be slightly heavier once I load the front compartment. My truck squats a little and has a little bit of sway when on highway. Not looking to increase towing capacity, but looking for something that will help with a little squatting, sway and possibly help provide some assistance for my truck to better deal with the added weight. Also, I see there are a lot of options. Id like to install myself and need to know the part # of recommended model. Can I just put them on the rear?

For your new trailer and your slight truck squat, the suspension enhancement isn't the best option. Yes, adding springs like # SSR-127-47 will help with squat and ride quality but they will not help with sway. It will help with load support in the bed and can be used just in the rear.

What I recommend that will help with both squat and sway control is a weight distribution system. I recommend the Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - No Shank - Trunnion Bar - 17K GTW, 1,700 lbs TW # RP66075. You can use a shank like Reese Titan Weight Dist Shank - Trunnion Only - 5-3/4" Drop, 8-1/4" Rise - 1,700 lbs TW # RP54977. You will also need hitch ball # 63840 for this system. This will disperse the weight to reduce the squat and will actively fight sway to keep your trailer tracking with your truck. This is my favorite system for quality of ride and sway control.
