U-Bolt Mounts of Curt C18115-117 Roof Cargo Basket are Too Long

Question:

I installed the roof basket on my 2018 grand cherokee jeep and the bolts on the u bracket are too long and looks like they my tear my roof bage. any ideas how to fix this problem

There's no reason why you can't shorten those U-bolts so they don't extend up into the basket. A hacksaw would work, but a rotary tool like a Dremel with a cut-off wheel would make a much cleaner cut and not mess up the threads. You can use a small file to clean up the threads after you've cut off the excess length.

Another option would be to use some screw caps or protectors, which will be available at your local hardware store. These will slide onto the ends of the U-bolts, so they won't dig into your roof bag.
