Dimensions of Thule 853-5147 Replacement Roof Rack Track Nut

Question:

It’s a known fact that Thule is the supplier for OEM crossbars for BMW and MINI. It seems that these OEM crossbars have proprietary T Track widths that are wider than those used on standard Thule bars Aeroblade and Wingbar. Would these washers allow for the attachment of the M6 T Bolt into the T Track of the OEM crossbars? Currently I’m using a run-of-the-mill Stainless Steel washer to allow for the T Bolt to grip to the underside of the T Track but would like for something more substantial.

According to Thule, at one time they did the OEM roof racks for BMW/Mini, but that's been several years ago so they can't provide any information on anything more recent than 8 or so years ago.

The good news is that I can simply provide you with the dimensions of the track nut, which will provide you with a good idea whether it'll work with the slots in your crossbars.

The # 853-5147 nut measures 1-1/4 x 3/4 of an inch and is .159 of an inch thick. It's threaded for an M6 bolt.

I have the Yakima HD set up on a retrax topper. the bolts to mount it to the bed topper are narrower than the channel and i over tightened one of them and it dimpled the t slot rail. Question is - if i swap out to these nuts - will i get a better grip on that track or is there a better option than the yakima bolts?

I wouldn't use anything other than what came with your Yakima setup. Those parts have been tested and approved to work together so you'll really just want to make sure you have everything positioned correctly and that you don't over-torque anything.
