Question:
put in the new B and W turn over ball hitch. Had the RVB 3500 companion hitch took it out of a 2017 Denali with 6 foot bed. Always before the ball was slightly forward of the axel center now it is slightly to the rear GM says that is ok. But the companion at its old setting is way back and with all of the adjustments made it is still farther back of axel center is that still ok?

It sounds like you are using the B&W Companion Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter part # BWRVK3500 with the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # BWGNRK1020 on a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 and are worried about the location of the king pin. If that is the case then you are fine with the king pin behind the rear axle. I understand this goes against what you have been taught but this is the location that both B&W and GM have deemed to be the best. In fact, the factory puck system is now further back from the rear axle. I am not certain as to why the change was made but increased cab clearance would be the most logical reason for this.
Please note, if you don't already have a set of suspension enhancements for the tow vehicle I highly recommend a set. The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2613 in particular which would do an excellent job of preserving the vehicle's suspension and helping to improve your towing experience by smoothing out the ride and increasing stability.
