Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock Will Not Unlock with Door Lock

Published 10/16/2019

Question:

i have a popandlock installed on my 2016 Ford F250 tailgate. it has worked for a few years and now will not unlock. Coincidentally the lock on my Snugtop also will not unlock. Im looking for info on trouble shooting. Im not sure if its a wiring issue, or a device issue. Can i check for voltage at the device? these are momentary, so im not finding solid voltage readings when i push the lock and unlock buttons. Do these work on voltage reversal? +12V blue to green on lock, -12V blue to green on unlock? Can we see this on a meter? On the Snugtop, if I press the lock button the top locks, but will not unlock have to use the key. If i reverse the wires at the device, it will unlock, but will not lock. This leads me to believe i may have a wiring issue.

I spoke to my contact at Pop & Lock about the Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock part # PAL8250 and they informed me that your issue sounds like there is a problem with the wiring rather than a problem with the actual device. In order to confirm this you can indeed check for voltage. That said, you will need to first disconnect the actuator from the handle and then test the lock and unlock wires feeding the actuator. The corresponding wires should then show power when you lock and unlock the vehicle but if not you know you have a short or loose connection.

I have attached a list of our circuit testing devices for you below.
