The Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Supplemental Braking System # RM-9400 wires directly to the battery in your towed vehicle for power. If you have an adapter like the Roadmaster # RM-98164-7 that goes from the 7-Way on your RV to the 4-Way round on your vehicle you're good to go. The brown wire you mentioned is for the running lights.
Roadmaster does just recommend that you start the towed vehicle after towing for more than 6 hours and let it idle for 15-20 minutes to keep the battery charged.
I have attached a short video demonstration that you can check out as well.
