Recommended Winch for Boat Trailer with Rollers and 20 Foot KeyWest Boat

Updated 09/24/2019 | Published 09/22/2019

Question:

I have a 20’ KeyWest, 3300 lbs wet on a roller trailer that has an existing 2000 lbs hand winch. Normal/moderate ramp grade expected. Should I jump to the 3000 lbs or is the 1500 lbs more than enough?

I suggest you go with a 2:1 boat to winch ratio at the minimum for your boat trailer which would put you at around 1,500-2,000 lbs. The higher rated the winch you have, the longer it will last so a 3,000 lb winch would have you covered and it would last much longer so this is what I recommend. For this, the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch part # DL24870 is a great choice as it has everything that you need for installation.
