Electric Trailer Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2009 Volkswagen Touareg TDI

Question:

I have 2009 VW Touareg TDI that is pre-wired for a brake controller. I have no idea what to get but I will be towing a 2011 Tahoe Q5i boat, weight between 4 and 5 thousand pounds. Does this brake controller come with everything I need to connect it to my vehicles plug or will I need to buy more wires?

I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. It is one of our highest rated and most popular brake controller models. If your Touareg has a factory tow package, then you will just need to connect the wires from the brake controller to the tow package wires under the dash.

The tow package wiring may be located behind the lower appearance panel beneath the dash and to the right of the emergency brake pedal. It may be on the left, wrapped in grey foam. I have included a link to an FAQ article that might help you.
