How To Install Replacement Trunnion Latch Pins # 58025 on Older Reese Weight Distribution Head
Updated 03/02/2012 | Published 02/28/2012 >
Question:
One of my latch pins broke, and the latch is missing. I do see that you sell replacements, and I was looking at the head, but I do not see an obvious way to install the new latch pin and latch. Is it just pressed in somehow, and if so, how do I remove the remainder of the broken pin?

If you have an older style Trunnion weight distribution head then the Replacement Trunnion Latch Pins for Reese Standard Trunnion Style Weight Distribution, part # 58025, is the correct item.
I spoke with my contact at Reese and he said that the latch pins are held in place by a dowel that is inserted in to the head and it has a small tack weld to hold the dowel in place. That tack weld has to be removed by a grinder and then the dowel can be punched out and removed. After installing the new dowels they would also have to be tack welded to stay in place and hold the latch pins.
