Can Curt round spring bars be used with a Reese weight distribution hitch head?

No, most weight distribution hitch heads have specific spring bar fitments so they're typically not interchangeable. You would want to find the specific model of your Reese weight distribution hitch and determine the proper spring bar capacity for it in order to use the system. Some systems will allow you to use multiple capacity spring bars within their model, while others require specific spring bars for each weight capacity.

For example, if you had the Reese Strait-Line # RP66084 you would need part # RP66009.

If you can figure out what you have I'd be happy to look for some replacement spring bars.

We have a Reese hitch and lost one of the spring bars. We have kit# 49901. Is there a replacement available for the spring bar? Would it work if we bought 2 new spring bars of a different make/weight capacity? Thanks.

@ThomasM Look like the correct replacement was part number 58441 for your Pro Series weight distribution hitch. The heads unfortunately are made slightly different between each model so you unfortunately would not be able to use a different branded spring bar set. You're looking at needing a whole new weight distribution hitch in order to safely tow your trailer. What is the GVWR and tongue weight for your trailer? Do you like the round bar/chain-hanger style hitch or would you like a different design? Do you experience a lot of sway or just a little?

@KevinC Thanks for the response. We don’t experience much sway and in terms of preference, I have only used the chain hanger style so what could you recommend. GVWR is 7,500. Hitch weight is 750. Thanks.

@ThomasM I would have to recommend the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW0750. I've used this system numerous times and it's our favorite to use when doing in-house trainings because of how easy it is to setup. The frame brackets easily clamp to the frame, the included tool makes engaging the spring bars or releasing them easy, and the hitch ball comes already installed so just getting the height setting right for your truck and trailer is all you'll really have to do. Overall the ride quality, noise level, and ease of use make the SwayPro my top weight distribution hitch recommendation in most cases. If you were experiencing a lot of sway that's when I'd recommend going with a friction spring bar style hitch like one from Fastway or Equal-i-zer.
