Question:

I have one of these under my rv sink. I can smell grey water tank. Do i replace the white vent or the pipe and vent. The pipe on mine line is longer than the one with the vent yall have for sale

Looking at your photo, it looks like the threaded piece of 4" pipe that comes with the LaSalle Bristol Utopia TurboVent RV Air part # 3447425011AAVABS is either the same length or very close to what you have cemented with a solvent cement like part # 3447530889 into the ventilation pipe on your setup. The TurboVent fits 1-1/2" diameter vent pipe.

I recommend to replace both pieces by removing the old pipe and cheater vent from the vertical pipe and lightly coating the outside of the new ABS pipe that comes with the TurboVent with the cement and lightly coating the inside of your ventilation pipe. Then slide the ABS pipe into your vent pipe and you're done.

Looking at Wendy's photo of her AAV that needs replacing, Heather A. recommended removing both the vertical pipe and the old AAV and replacing it with the new ones. 2 points: Wendy's vertical pipe is cemented in place. Exactly how do you expect her to remove it? Why not simply unscrew her current AAV and then screw in the new AAV using teflon tape for a good seal. This would actually make the job quick, easy, and accomplished without tools or ABS cement. Wendy went to the trouble of sending in a photo hoping to get expert advice. I think Heather A's advice turned a simple job into a complicated one and required Wendy to purchase yet another product. I would like an explanation of why Heather's answer is better or a change in her answer. Thanks. PS I write this comment because I just replaced all 3 of my AAV's and read a lot of answers like Heather's and a few like mine. Would like to know which is really better. My 3 new valves are working perfectly now. No more odor under the sinks, and the job was really quick and easy.

@LarryL Ditto. If you are buying an exact replacement for the "white part" - meaning the valve that screws into the plain old plastic pipe, then you can simply unscrew the "bad" valve and screw on a new one. I'm currently soaking my existing valve in vinegar to see if it restores good function.

@LarryL Heather's answer is terrible! She obviously has no practical experience with plumbing. If she did she would know you can just unscrew the old vent and screw in a new one. To follow her advice you would need to remove the tee coupling and do a bunch of cutting and splicing because the piping would no longer line up.
