Question:

I intend to use this winch to retract vertically a 700lb ballasted sailboat centerboard. The winch will sit on the cabin roof and lift the centerboard about 3 feet. I believe the 1500lb capacity is plenty but would prefer a poly strap over wire cable. What do you suggest?

The only types of winches we can recommend for hoisting like what you are wanting to do are the worm gear winches like the # DL11011 that you referenced. This winch has more than enough capacity so it would fit and work well. For a similar winch that can use a strap instead of a wire rope you'd want the part # DL11004 with the strap part # DL24242 and you'd be set.
