Can Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller # C51180 Install Upside Down
Updated 05/31/2019 | Published 05/30/2019 >
Question:
My 2019 Ford Ranger requires me to install the Curt Echo upside down in the 7 pin. Meaning, the LED light is facing the pavement instead of toward the sky. When I sync the device to my phone, the app shows the Blue ribbon instead of Gray around the emergency brake button. All the videos Ive seen it should be Gray and then turns to blue when braking. Im concerned that this is meaning that my controller is constantly applying the brakes even when Im not trying to slow down. Im wondering if this is caused my installing the controller upside down causing the internal sensors in the Echo to operate abnormally.

The Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180 that you referenced is designed to work like normal if installed upside down. The circle around the orange emergency override button of the controller is a display for the braking output. It's basically a gray circuit that fills in blue as the braking power increases. If yours is filled up completely blue that would indicate that the brakes are fully applied. What happens then if you press the center override button? Does the circle/ribbon change? Have you tried connecting to a trailer yet?
