Question:
Hi, I have a 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500HD LTZ Z71 with a BandW turnover ball gooseneck installed. Id like to be able to pull a 10,000lb 5th wheel 2006 forest river sierra 315BHTS. Since the truck already has the turnover ball, I was looking at either BWRVK3400 or BWRVK3050. I was also wondering if I could just use a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter. Do you have any advice or recommendations for my situation?

Expert Reply:
The B&W Companion Sliding 5th wheel hitch # BWRVK3400-5W used in your Silverado 2500's gooseneck hitch # BWGNRK1016-5W will give superior performance compared to any of the available adapters for towing a 5th wheel with a gooseneck hitch.
Adapters such as Convert-A-Ball # CAB-C5GX1216 and Ranch # AM3139, shown on the linked page along with similar items, do cost a lot less but they can't give you the same stability as the Companion since they add an additional connection point to the system.
However, since you have a tool box installed in the Silverado's bed you will most likely need to remove this in order to install the Companion. If this is not something you care to do then the adapters noted above will work and both have at least a 20K capacity which is more than enough for the 5th wheel trailer you're considering.
