I went out and measured the actuator # DM8104002 across the top and it's exactly 4 inches like what you're looking for. It's designed to be welded to 3 inch wide trailer tongues.

Hey Warren, so we don't have a recommended size of hardware to use with the Demco Coupler part #DM8104002. This is technically a weld on actuator so your best option would be to have a welder install it.
