Heavy-duty but easy to use: the electric lockout keeps your trailer's disc brakes from locking up when you launch your boat, and the EZ-Latch is a step up from finnicky trigger latches. Primed, ready to weld, and proudly made in the USA.

Electric reverse lockouts can be summarized in one word: convenient. If you're looking for an actuator that lets you "set it and forget it", this one from Demco could be a great option for you.
The solenoid on this electric lockout ties into the reverse light circuit on your 5-pin, 6-pin, or 7-pole connector so that your disc brakes won't engage when your reverse lights come on. This can make backing up a boat or construction trailer so much easier than using a manual lockout because everything is automatic.
Few things matter in towing as much as a secure connection to your hitch ball. The thing of it is, some coupler latches don't really have a way to show you that they have a firm grasp on the hitch ball. You either just have to eyeball it or try to wiggle the coupler latch until it closes. And if you opt for just trusting your coupler and assuming it's on there, you might not notice the gap between the ball and your coupler's ball socket, an issue known as highballing, until it's too late and you lose your trailer on the highway.
That won't be an issue with the EZ-Latch on this Demco actuator. Just center your coupler over the hitch ball, and lower your trailer tongue as you normally would.
As the coupler's socket slowly accepts the hitch ball, you'll see the latch rise. Keep lowering your trailer tongue until you hear the metalic clink . When you do, you'll know for certain that you've got a good, strong connection, without the need to tug or wiggle the latch into place. This gets you on the road a little bit quicker and with a lot more confidence.
The EZ-latch is so easy to use that you don't even need a safety pin to keep the ball secured inside the socket. But you can, as a theft deterrent, put a locking pin through the dedicated hole on the side of the coupler.
You might see the phrase "hard plastic" and think, how durable could that really be? But the truth is, it's tougher than it looks and you'll probably never break it.
Its real name is acetal copolymer. It has a self-lubricating surface. It's extremely resilient, durable, and smooth. And it wears well over time. In fact, this same can even be found in some automotive applications, making it perfectly suited for a telescoping brake actuator on a boat trailer.
When you slow to a stop as you're towing, momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. When this happens, the surge brake actuator compresses the master cylinder inside, which forces it to push hydraulic fluid out to your brake lines, ultimately engaging your trailer brakes. When you start moving again, the actuator will telescope back out, stopping the flow of fluid back to the brakes and allowing your trailer's wheels to start rolling again.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Demco hydraulic disc brake actuator with the electric reverse lockout for a 2 5/16 inch diameter ball as a 12,500 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailers brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically, what'll happen is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum will push the trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So, with a surge brake system, this actuator is triggered as that trailer moves forward once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. And when this happens, the inner slide portion of this actuator will contract into the outer portion and applies force to the master cylinder right back here.
So this in turn, supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. Between the two parts, they do use an acetyl co-polymer lining, provides a nice smooth operation as the actuator telescopes in and out. They do use an easy latch coupler design, allows for a nice simple, secure hookup and disconnect. What's nice about it is you don't have to open it up to hook up and then lock it into place. It'll let you hook up with it in the close position like it is now.
Just drop the coupler over the hitch ball, the latch will snap up and into place. Lock it down, you're ready to go. It is designed to fit a 2 5/16 diameter ball size. This is a heavy duty steel construction. Has a nice sturdy reinforced outer casing.
And if you notice, they do have a prime finish on it to give you the corrosion resistance. The master cylinder right back here, it is a composite master cylinder, makes it very durable, efficient, and coercion proof. And we mentioned the electric reverse lockout right back here that's attached to the back of the master cylinder. This will let you back up without actuating your trailer brakes. Basically, the solenoid back here activates automatically when you shift into reverse.
And the way it does that is the solenoid will wire into your trailer connector, which connects to your tow vehicle. So then, it can detect when you go into reverse. They do offer this breakaway cable and the latch hook, which is included. And this is required by law because it prevents a trailer runaway situation. So basically, what you'll do is when this hooks up to your tow vehicle, you'll take this cable and the latch hook, hook it to the tow vehicle also. So, in case if this comes detached, this cable will pull, activate the lever, which again, will activate the master cylinder to apply the brakes. So, it does prevent a runaway situation. And as we mentioned, it is required by law. It is a weld-on installation. It's designed to mount to a straight three-inch wide trailer tow. This product is made in the USA. A few specs on this, the application, this is for trailers with hydraulic disc brakes. Gross towing weight capacity is 12,005 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity of 1,250 pounds. And this also goes by a part number of DA10. But, that's gonna do it for the review on the Demco hydraulic disc brake actuator with the electric reverse lockout for a 2 5/16 inch diameter ball.
Very high quality product. Super fast delivery.
Heavy duty. Bigger and heavier in person. Feel confident with that trailer behind you. Worry about other things instead of your trailer.
Nice quality.
Very well make Surge Brake Hitch. Excellent quality. etrailer always has what you need at a good price. Excellent company.
Arrived in good condition, although box was in bad shape. Just got it and disassembled to fit up and weld on 1978 Airstream 31' Excello 500. Will have to reposition jack and possibly propane tank mounts. This trailer originally had a vacuum brake booster. will update when installed.
Awesome on-line experience. The way it should work.
Thanks Amy
I received the coupler on time but was missing the reverse solenoid. My installation was a little unique do to replacing a super short Atwood unit. I also had to modify the channel as well, you may not have to for your application.
unit is heavy duty
arrived promptly
replaced actuator on utility trailer, updated frame and axles, was time to complete with correct weight actuator,, went from 7k to 12.5k and has by pass for auto back up anti lock.. this is mcuh better than non by-pass type
