Question:

stability straps # 18050 for Curt Class III #13408 Im installing this hitch receiver for an electric wheel chair and Electric Lift. Total weight less than 200 lbs. Do I need the stability straps for this non-trailer purpose?

Based on the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13408 you must have a Jeep Wrangler TJ between 1997 and 2006. This hitch is rated for a maximum tongue weight of 400 lbs, and the installation details I've included also require the stabilization strap # 18050 for any non-trailer application like a cargo carrier in order not to void your hitch warranty. Under their warranty you would need this strap even for a 35 lb bike rack.

If you don't want to use a stabilization strap then I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75193 which is also a fit and will give you the same weight capacity without the strap.

If you need to use a hitch extender because of the spare tire, you would reduce the hitch tongue weight by 50% so that would put you at a max of 200 lbs including the lift/carrier weight.
