Question:
Hi, I need to add a trailer hitch to my 2010 Honda CRV. Do the trailer hitches with round frame construction offer great towing capacity/strength over the square frame hitches? Is that what sets the two types apart? Thanks.

There are both Class I and Class III trailer hitches available that are confirmed to fit your 2010 Honda CR-V. The available Class I hitches, such as the Draw-Tite Sport Frame # 24792, feature a square tube design, while the Class III hitches like the Draw-Tite # 75547 have a round crosstube. This crosstube shape may appear to indicate the hitch's strength, as they differ between the two classes, but the design is typically only relevant to the physical appearance of the hitch. A round tube provides a sleeker look and will typically be a bit more hidden than a square bar. The particular design does not necessarily refer to its strength or capacity. There are trailer hitches available (for other vehicles) with a much higher capacity that feature s square crossbar.
For your Honda CR-V, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Round Tube Receiver Hitch # 75547. This hitch is custom fit for your vehicle and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation. Even if you do not plan on coming close to the capacities on this higher-rated hitch, the 2 inch receiver opening will open the door for a lot more options if you are looking to use a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. The options available for 1-1/4 inch receivers, which is what a Class I hitch provides, are simply more limited.
I have attached the installation instructions and a video on the 2011 Honda CR-V that you can use for reference.
If you are looking to do any towing, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118427. This custom-fit harness is confirmed to fit your CR-V and will install by connecting directly to the existing ports located behind the driver side trim panel. This will provide your vehicle with the 4-Way connector needed to connect with and power the trailer's signal lights.
You will also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I have attached an article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection. I have also included a couple articles on trailer towing that you might find helpful.
