Installing Thule Gutter Feet on 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Hard Top and Two Kayaks

Question:

Jason S. answered a question for me earlier. Here is one more for the team.My gutter mounts are fine except for one thing. when I place the 1x1inch bar in the mounts and try to secure them with the screw the nut keeps turning and does not allow for tightening.. was there some kind of holding nut ring, if you will, to keep the nut from turning under the bar? Was the nut welded on or did I loose some small retainer after 40 years? sounds like I may have to become inventive. Thank-you for your time............

The Thule Rapid Gutter Feet for AeroBlade Crossbars are compatible with your 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (4 door) hard top. The feet need to be 20 inches apart on center. You can see in the attached photo that the front rail can be centered above the front doors if desired. The max capacity for this system is 165 lbs. If you don't already have crossbars, the 60 inch Wingbar Evo # TH711520 is a great option. You can also add locks to secure your rack using # TH450400.

These locks will also work with the discontinued Thule Gutter feet TH300 and square load bar.

If you don't already have Kayak carriers, I recommend the etrailer.com J-Style Kayak Carrier - Folding - Universal Mount # E98878 for each kayak. I've attached a video to assist.

The gutter feet you have are the discontinued TH300 feet. They didn't have any additional screw other than the large screw and locking nut at the bottom. The square bar is secured in the foot by the angle and pressure on the bar once installed. That bolt installs from the back of the gutter with the clip on the front and then with the locking knob which has the integrated nut. These locking knobs are intended to work only when the unlocked to tighten or loosen, so when locked they will simply spin giving you no tightening or loosening ability. If your knobs are not working, then you will want the Replacement Locking Anti-Rattle Knob for Thule Apex Bike Racks and Rain Gutter Foot Packs - Qty 1 # 753-0073 and if you need the bolt the Replacement M8 T-Bolt for Thule Roof Rack Gutter Feet # 853-0782. These will use the Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders - Qty 4 # TH450400. I've attached a video to assist.
