Question:
I have a 2010 Ford e450 class c Rv and would like to ad a brake controller. At the rear of the Rv I have a 7 pin connector already how do I check to see if any extra wiring is need for a brake controller? Or would I just locate the plug behind the dash and plug in a controller and go?

Expert Reply:
If the 7-way trailer connector you have was equipped from the factory which it most likely was then all you will need to do is plug in the brake controller and then you are good to go. The plug for your 2010 Ford E-450 chassis should be located up under the dash, near the emergency brake pedal. If you like you can test the pins inside the connector to see if they are active but you should not need to.
I recommend using the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller part # RED44FR with the Redarc Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness for Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers part # 331-TPH-005. The Tow-Pro Elite is very similar in design to a factory trailer brake controller. There is a control box that gets installed under the dash, out of sight and then a control knob that gets mounted on your dash wherever you prefer. This will provide a very clean look and will allow you to mount it in many different locations whereas a standard brake controller will need to be in a certain position/angle. The other nice feature of this brake controller is that you can switch between proportional and a user-controlled mode which gives you more control of the trailer's brakes. I am not aware of any other brake controller that can do this.
I have attached a review video for you as well.
