Question:
How to tell if brake shoes need replacing
asked by: David G
Helpful Expert Reply:
I went out into our warehouse to measure the pad thickness of a Dexter 3,500 10 by 2-1/4 inch brake assembly like the part # 23-468-469 and just the brake pad portion of the shoe measured .18 of an inch.
The entire shoe thickness was .29 of an inch and the metal portion of the shoe measured .11 of an inch. Dexter says they need to be replaced when the pad material gets down to 1/16 of an inch (.0625) or less.
