Low-Profile S-Class Tire Chains for 2006 Ford F-150 with 265/60-18 Tires

I will be needing chains/cables for the first time thia weekend. Manual says if I have 265 60 18 size tires that I should not use chains. Dealer says chains can ruin my ABS System. Does this sound right. Thinking they are saying this for liability reasons. Thoughts? Roads should be decent for the day Im driving but rhey are getting heavy snow for 2 days before we begin out trip. Thank you.

Auto makers often discourage use of tire chains because of potential interference with components in the braking system or other parts within the wheel wells. At the same time many states/regions require use of chains, or at least having a set in the vehicle, or you could receive a summons or be barred access to certain roads.
One of my fellow Experts gave this situation the affectionate term "Tire Chain Paradox". The bottom line is that the auto maker cannot force you to brake the law!
Some chains, the S-Class type like the Konig K-Summit Chains # TH02230K77 that fit your tire size, are very low-profile in design and this eliminates just about all risk of contact with delicate vehicle components. These are premium-quality European made chains and they are priced accordingly. But we do have less costly S-Class chains such as their LoPro # th04115265 and their XG12 Pro # th2004705265 that will actually work to improve your traction on snowy and icy roads.
The cable type like # PW3027C will let you meet the letter of the law to perhaps avoid a summons but they will not make nearly as much difference in actual driving safety as any of the above options.
Chains can be installed on all four tires. Note you always need to drive slowly with chains installed, 30-mph maximum, and never on bare road surfaces.
