What is the Correct Lug Nut to Use with a Wheel Retaining Ring on Dual Wheel Axles

Updated 07/08/2025 | Published 02/04/2019

Question:

So can i use these flanged lug nuts instead of the 90° cone nuts with the wheel retaining ring on my Dexter 10k dual wheel axles? Thanks

Expert Reply:

As long as your dual wheel has a flat surface where the Flange Wheel Nut # 95188 would rest against, like what the Dexstar Dual Wheel # AM20790 has, then you would use this flange wheel nut in the place of a nut with a 90 degree cone. Attached is a review video of the flange wheel nut for you to check out. In the video we pull a wheel out to demonstrate the flat surface area the nut would install on.

If you are using a wheel retaining ring, like the part # 33-52-1, then you would still need to use a 90 degree cone lug nut like part # 6-109.

CAN YOU USE THE RETAING RING AND CONE NUTS ON THE SOLID 17.5 WHEELS VS THE SWIVEL FLANGE?

@ScottG If your wheels have the coned shape then you need the cone nuts, but if it's flat where the nuts butt up against the wheel then that's when you need the flanged nut.
