Recommended Taller Gooseneck Hitch Ball Compatible with 2018 Ram 3500 Factory Pucks

Question:

I see in some of the answers to question between the Ram, Chevy, Ford systems that the shank ball placement is not the same. Yet I have an E-mail from Curt that the taller ball used in the Chevy, Ford, Nissan pn# 60629? will fit my 2018 Ram with the factory puck system. So what is the real story? I need a taller ball for my 5th wheel set up. I would rather not buy a whole kit again as I have already bought the standard Ram kit last March/April. I see that maybe the B and W ball is taller than the Curt, but it is not available as a stand alone without the chain hook adapters. Would the Reese taller ball be a better option? Or is there any other options that would work for me. Thanks

You are correct that the B&W Ball and Safety Chain Kit for Ram Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNXA2062 is taller at 5-3/4 inches above the bed. The hitch ball is only available in the kit as you stated.

I reached out to my tech contact at Curt and the kit # C60692 will allow the hitch ball to fit your Ram but the safety chain anchors will not fit your Ram pucks. So what you want is the hitch ball # C60629 (and the Ram safety chain anchors # C60617 which came with your original kit # C60618).

It sounds like you have the Hi-Rise Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter by Bulldog, Draw-Tite and Reese # 9480 and want it to work with your factory GMC gooseneck hitch. If that is the case, it is not compatible. The factory pucks for the gooseneck don't use a pin like that system requires. They instead use a mechanism in the ball that protrudes out from the ball itself to secure it in place. There isn't a compatible fit for the Hi-Rise hitch with that system. You can use the Curt # C60692 and then use a hitch like the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter - Single Jaw - 21,000 lbs # DM8550045.
