Trailer Tire Pressure Recommendation for Hot Weather
Updated 07/03/2018 | Published 07/02/2018 >
Question:
It is recommended that the maximum psi indicated on tire should used be in the tires. Do you still max out psi when the temperture is 100 degrees or more while headed down the highway?

Expert Reply:
The max psi for a trailer tire should be used at all times and should be inflated to when the tire is "cold" or first thing before any towing. Any pressure fluctuations from heat that builds up on the highway would be fine as long as you have the max pressure inflated in ambient temps before towing. Heat is the biggest cause of trailer tire failures though so the other things to keep an eye on is be sure not to exceed the speed rating and weight rating of the tire and you'll be good.
