Question:

I recently purchased TH29611XT for my 2018 Ford Transit and am very pleased with the ladder rack. I need to use the rack for things other than ladders and am looking to add tie down loops in the lower slots to carry flat goods such as plywood sheets. I have ratchet straps and am not confident that wrapping the hook ends around the supports is secure. In one of the attached photos, I show how I used lumber to augment the rack for loads wider than the rails and secured the load with the ratchet straps. In the other photo, I show how I used rubber straps to secure a ladder. I would be happier with more mount points. Do the 59795 or 59796 Tie Down Loops fit the lower tracks? Might the TH29700 Shim Kit be necessary for stability?

In order to add tie-down loops to your Thule TracRac TracVan Ladder Rack # TH29611XT, I recommend the Thule Tie-Downs # TH25100. This kit includes 2 tie-down loops and the needed hardware.

The Aluminum Shim Kit # TH29700 that you also referenced is designed for use on vans that have curved rain gutters to ensure that the crossbars on the roof sit at the same height. If the crossbars on your Ford Transit Connector sit at different heights, then adding the shim kit will definitely help with stability of your secured cargo.
