Question:

We have three roof-mounted cycle carriers and tow a caravan. We now need to carry four bikes and will be leaving our caravan in Spain. It would be ideal to have a rear bike carrier so that we could use our roof box on the way home to bring everything back, but not sure which would fit and allow us to tow. Can you help?

If you want to both tow a trailer and carry bikes using a 2-inch rear-mounted hitch like # e98864 on your 2008 RAV4 then the best option is a towing style rack. Swagman makes a 4-bike carrier that allow this multi-tasking.

The Original 4 Bike Rack # S64675 has a long shank that, like a standard ball mount, has a 3/4-inch hole to accept a hitch ball like 1-7/8-inch ball # 19256 or 2-inch ball # 19258. Towing capacity is 3,500-lbs gross trailer weight (GTW) and 300-lbs tongue weight (TW). The main mast tilts for easier vehicle access.

This rack and your bikes can be locked using anti-rattle lock kit # S64030.
